Many years ago, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard College and a Masters of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. Thinking this would prepare me for a career in architecture, I found work and settled into the San Francisco Bay Area. I was right about the career, but I was not especially convinced that I wanted to be right.
Photography was always an adjunct to my architectural work, and after some thirty years, I realized through my photographs that what I was after was not about architecture at all. It was about the spirit of place, of time, of memory.
Now, when I am not writing for children or teaching students about the creative spirit of architecture, I e
xplore this aspect of photography, seeking inspiration in travel and in the beautiful high desert of New Mexico.
