A Collection of Dreams
by Marie Maher
Through my photography, I seek to not only depict the subject visually, but also express emotions, memories, or other intangible dimensions. I attempt to tell a story, to capture the essence of being in that specific place and time. Frequently, I will explore mystical (some would say dark) themes, and I am fascinated by dreams and the transition from sleep to awakening. I also like to explore the interplay of light and shadow and sometimes create pieces of an abstract nature that encourage the viewer to contemplate the image.
I find that though I may have a specific goal or vision in mind when I start my work, I will often achieve my best results when I allow the subject to define itself. My most successful pieces will unfold to the viewer on closer inspection and repeated viewings – the details are important.
My hope is that these images will indeed resonate as much with you, the viewer, as I had intended when creating them.
